You can delete your Cyberunite account and the personal data held with it at any time. This is your right to erasure under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. This page explains how to ask, what gets deleted, what we must keep, and how long it takes.
What this covers
This policy applies to everything Cyberunite provides — this website, our client portal, and every product and service line we deliver or operate:
- Web Development
- AI & AI-Powered Apps
- AI Fine-Tuning & Integrations
- Mobile App Development
- Web3 & Blockchain
- Crypto Apps & Exchanges
- Software & SaaS
- Branding & UI/UX Design
- Cloud & Hosting
- ICT Training
It applies whether the work is delivered as a one-off project, an ongoing retainer, a hosted subscription or a training course, and whether you reach us through this site, the portal, a mobile app we publish, or a contract signed directly with us. We serve clients in Nigeria and abroad; this policy applies to all of them.
How to request deletion
- Email info@cyberunite.com from the address registered to the account, with the subject "Delete my account".
- Tell us the account name or email address to close, and name the product or portal it belongs to if you use more than one.
- We will confirm your identity — usually by replying to the registered email address — and then confirm in writing once the deletion is done.
If you use a mobile app we have built for a client, you can also request deletion from inside that app, or through the contact details published on its store listing.
There is no charge for this, and we will not ask you why.
What gets deleted
- Your login credentials and profile details.
- Your portal account, including comments you posted and files you uploaded.
- Your contact record and marketing preferences.
- Support correspondence that is no longer needed for a live matter.
What we have to keep, and why
The NDPA allows us to refuse erasure where we have a legal obligation to retain data. In practice that means:
- Invoices and payment records — kept for at least 6 years because section 374 of CAMA 2020 and Federal Inland Revenue Service rules require it. These are restricted so they are used only for accounting, tax and legal purposes.
- Signed contracts and their key correspondence — kept for 6 years after the engagement ends, to establish what was agreed and to meet the limitation period for contractual claims.
- Records of your deletion request — kept so we can show the request was honoured, as our accountability obligations require.
- Anything needed for a live legal claim, dispute or regulatory enquiry — kept until it ends.
Anything not on this list is deleted.
How long it takes
We action requests within 30 days, and usually much sooner. Data is removed from live systems immediately and disappears from encrypted backups as those backups age out, within 90 days at the latest. Backups are never mined for deleted accounts.
What happens to shared work
Deleting your account does not delete the project itself. Work delivered under a contract — code, designs, documents and the project record — belongs to the contracting organisation and stays with them. Where a comment of yours is part of a project history, we remove your name and contact details rather than the record of what was decided.
Changed your mind?
Tell us before the 30 days are up and we can usually stop the process. Once deletion has run it cannot be reversed — we do not keep a shadow copy to restore from.
If we refuse
If we cannot delete something, we will tell you which item, which legal obligation requires us to keep it, and for how long. You may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at ndpc.gov.ng if you disagree.
